Volcano Huts offers a range of sleeping options to suit adventurers of all stripes. The Eyjafjallajokull Cabin features 14 small but comfortable rooms with bunks and shared bathrooms, while the Thorsmork Cottages have a more rustic feel, with pine-panelled walls and their own little kitchenette – perfect for families.

If you’re keen to have the experience of camping without sacrificing the creature comforts, opt for one of the lovely glamping tents, with twin or double beds and comfy seating areas. The most spacious option is the beautiful mountain huts, built from local wood, with running water and a kitchenette.

Food & Drink

Having worked up an appetite on a tiring hike, the LavaGrill restaurant is a welcoming space with a range of traditional Icelandic country cuisine to sate your hunger. At breakfast, you can load up on energy for the day ahead with a hearty selection of fruit, bread, pastries and cold cuts, with a range of salads, soups and sandwiches on offer at lunch. Dinner is a multi-course affair of locally reared meat or fish, with fresh vegetables and homemade bread. Packed lunches will be prepared for you to take on long hikes.

Enjoy a visit to the sauna, housed in a wooden cabin in a picturesque spot on the edge of the woods, and take a dip in the geothermal pool – both perfect for relaxing and helping those tired muscles recover after a long day’s hiking and outdoor adventuring.

Activities at Volcano Huts

The volcanic landscapes of Thorsmork Park are criss-crossed with hiking trails to suit those of all abilities, whether you’re a seasoned walker or want to take things easy - a highlight is the Laugavegur Trail, which is often described as one of the most beautiful hikes in the world. As well as being immersed in spectacular landscapes of volcanoes, mountain peaks and valleys, you can also see wildlife such as arctic foxes.

For many people, the main event is after dark, when the skies fill with nature’s greatest light show during the winter months, the Northern Lights. The dark skies and quiet of Thorsmork make it perfect for a spectacular showing.
