Perfect forEscaping to the country and getting away from it all in style.
In the knowThe name Silfurberg translates as ‘Iceland Spar’ or ‘Iceland Crystal’, which is speculated to be the famous ‘sunstone’ mentioned in medieval Icelandic texts and used by the Vikings for navigation. Iceland Spar is rare, and one of its few mines can be found nearby.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Silfurberg is in the Breiðdalur Valley in east Iceland, about 45 minutes south of Egilsstaðir.

Rooms at Silfurberg

Silfurberg’s clean lines, beautiful wooden pieces and panels and tasteful, muted colours are classic Scandinavian chic, and this look extends into the hotel’s four comfortable rooms and one suite - a split-level studio apartment with a kitchenette. They are located in an expertly renovated barn, which adds to the feeling of rustic charm, and they are luxuriously appointed to ensure that your stay is as relaxing and comfortable as possible. The large windows have stunning views over the Icelandic countryside.

Food & Drink

Breakfast is included with your stay at Silfurberg, and is based on delicious, healthy and locally sourced ingredients to set you up for a day breathing in the clear Icelandic country air. Dinner is also available in the restaurant, and features a veritable feast of a set menu based on traditional, seasonal produce such as mountain lamb, reindeer, salmon and fresh vegetables. Unwind after a day's exploring with a drink or two from the bar.

Facilities

After a day’s hiking, horse riding or fishing, the best way to relax and recover is in the hotel’s outdoor hot tubs and sauna on the domed terrace, which encapsulates the hotel’s fusion of luxurious relaxation and a rustic country environment.

Activities at Silfurberg

The dark, clear skies of Breiðdalur make Silfurberg a fantastic place to experience the aurora borealis, which occupy top spot on many people’s bucket lists. The soaring mountains, colourful canyons and nearby extinct volcano all make for magnificent hiking routes, and it’s also a great area to spot wildlife: herds of reindeer can often be found at Þorgrímsstaðir, and nearby are generous hunting lands for ptarmigan and wild goose. You can also go horse riding around the spectacular landscapes, or go trout fishing in the Heiðarvatn Lake above the hotel.
