The restaurant at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon serves up modern Icelandic cuisine with an ever-changing menu which shifts according to the availability of fresh, seasonal ingredients. The delicious food can be enjoyed overlooking the ocean, and it’s no surprise to learn that fresh seafood is high on the agenda here, with a particularly good line in hearty soups and bisques, with other highlights including the locally-reared grilled lamb with seasonal vegetables.

The cosy lounge bar is just the place to relax and warm up after a day’s exploration in the great outdoors, with a roaring fireplace and a wide selection of drinks.

The hotel takes its name from the world-famous Glacier Lagoon, a short drive away, which has featured in several Hollywood movies (including two James Bond films), thanks to its incredible otherworldly landscapes. It’s also a living testament to climate change – the lagoon, with huge icebergs rising dramatically from the surface of the water, has increased in size fourfold in recent decades. Other natural highlights in the vicinity of the hotel include Vatnajokull National Park, home to the striking Svartifoss waterfall.
