Sense of Place

Hotel Grimsborgir is in the heart of the Golden Circle, on the banks of the River Sog in southern Iceland.

Hotel Grimsborgir’s homely rooms, suites and apartments are spread across several outbuildings and the main house. They range in size, with something to suit everyone, from couples to families and groups - the largest apartment has five bedrooms. Food & Drink

Delicious Icelandic and international cuisine is on the menu at Hotel Grimsborgir’s stylish restaurant, with freshly caught river fish and seafood, local mountain lamb and hearty meat soups among the offerings waiting to warm you up after a day’s adventuring, while in the summer months, you can dine al fresco on the scenic terrace.

The hotel prides itself on its use of fresh, seasonal ingredients, and all breads and pastries are freshly baked on-site in the morning. If you fancy being a bit more self-sufficient – perhaps cooking the fruits of a day’s fishing on the river – most apartments are also equipped with kitchen facilities.

Activities at Hotel Grimsborgir

Hotel Grimsborgir is handily situated on the route of the Golden Circle, the most popular sightseeing route in Iceland, which includes some of the country’s most incredible natural wonders. Kerid, a vast volcanic crater dating back 6000 years, is a beautiful spot to hike, with a glistening lake in its centre; the Golden Waterfalls of the glacial river Hvitá are among the most beautiful of their kind in the world; and the sleeping giant Geysir, which lent its name to hot springs the world over, is also nearby. Active geysers are also in the area, such as the ever-lively Strokkur, which erupts every 3-5 minutes. This is also a brilliant place to experience the Northern Lights.

Around the hotel, you can play golf, go horse riding, dive in crystal-clear waters, and enjoy glacier treks, quad-biking and snowmobiling.
