Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Hotel Egilsen is in the quaint fishing town of Stykkisholmur, on the beautiful Snaefellsnes Peninsula.

Rooms at Hotel Egilsen

Hotel Egilsen’s rooms are the definition of ‘homely’, retaining the historic character of the building while delivering mod-cons such as complimentary iPads and invigorating power showers. They feature handmade wool blankets and wooden furniture, with fittings made from locally sourced, renewable materials such as coco fibre, natural rubber, wool, cotton, sea grass, horsehair, silk, linen and goose down.

Food & drink

Food at Hotel Egilsen is a simple, lovingly homemade affair with a commitment to local ingredients. You can start each day off right with owner Greta´s famous homemade healthy breakfast, with fresh organic eggs from local farmers. At lunchtime, Greta makes her own soup with homegrown vegetables and spices, and sandwiches with homemade bread and local seasonal ingredients. At around 3pm, the hotel serves warm waffles or blueberry pies with ice cream from the nearby Erpsstaðir farm. The hotel does not serve dinner but there are a number of excellent local restaurants within a few minutes’ walk.

Facilities

The heart of the hotel is the cosy lounge area on the first floor, where you can socialise with fellow guests, talk to the staff and unwind with a drink. Browse the small library for a new read - book swaps are encouraged here.

Activities at Hotel Egilsen

In summer, a boat ride through the Westfjords, stopping off at the tiny islands and villages which dot the coast along the way, is a magical experience. The landscape can also be explored through hikes, horse rides and cycle paths, and the more adventurous can trek the Snæfellsjökull glacier. Whale watching is available between January and April. Greta is happy to give advice on routes and can even pack a delicious picnic for you.
