The regally imposing Hotel Borg has become one of Reykjavik's landmarks, with a past as colourful as that of its founder, the famous strongman and adventurer Jóhannes Jósefsson. Returning to his homeland in 1927, when the republic was celebrating the first millennium of its existence, the capital needed a hotel fit for foreign heads of state, dignitaries and celebrities. Jósefsson saw an opportunity to realise his dream of opening a luxury hotel, and Hotel Borg was born.
Perfect forExperiencing Reykjavik in style.
In the knowBefore founding Hotel Borg, Jóhannes Jósefsson competed as a strongman in the 1908 Olympics and travelled the United States of America with Barnum & Baileys Circus.

Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The regal Hotel Borg overlooks the beautiful square of Austurvöllur, in the heart of Reykjavik.

Rooms at Hotel Borg

Hotel Borg is a pure showcase of Art Deco throughout, and this extends to the 56 rooms and suites, which retain their original character while exhibiting the most up-to-date standards of comfort and luxury. The style and décor will transport you back to the era of the hotel’s construction in the Twenties and Thirties, with geometric shapes and elegant cream and coffee shades. The walls are adorned with black and white photographs of scenes from Reykjavik’s past, which only adds to the nostalgic atmosphere. Some come with panoramic views over the city.

Food & Drink

If you're a fan of Jamie Oliver, you're in luck - there is a Jamie's Italian restaurant right here at Hotel Borg, where you can tuck into delicious pizza and pasta in a beautiful, historic setting. The dishes make the most of fresh local produce as well as international favourites.

Facilities

There is a spa, a hot tub and a sauna - perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring Reykjavik's many charms. If you prefer to get active with a workout though, there is also a fitness room.

Activities at Hotel Borg

Hotel Borg is just across the road from Althingi, the Icelandic parliament, which is the oldest continuous parliament in the world, having been founded in 930. Every session of parliament begins with mass at Reykjavik Cathedral a short walk away, which is also centuries old and is well worth a visit.

Any stay in Reykjavik should also take in Iceland’s breathtaking natural surroundings, and as the world’s northernmost capital city, it’s one of the most popular bases for a visit to see the aurora borealis – the Northern Lights.
