Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Hotel Kea is in the heart of Akureyri, nicknamed the ‘capital of North Iceland’.

Rooms at Hotel Kea

Hotel Kea's rooms are traditional and elegant, exhibiting the same classic style in which they were originally designed and updating it with the latest standards of comfort and luxury. The opulent suite is the hotel’s pride and joy, with huge Chesterfield-style leather sofas and chairs, modern art adorning the walls of the spacious living area, and spectacular balcony views over Eyjafjörður fjord.

Food & Drink

The Mulaberg Bistro and Bar is a popular hub in the heart of the city, where the finest Icelandic ingredients meet French, Italian and Danish influences to create delicious bistro cuisine. The bar spreads its reach far and wide to offer one of the greatest selections of wines, spirits and cocktails in the north of Iceland.

Hotel Kea's unrivalled central location means it’s great for making the most of Akureyri’s rich cultural scene, with a fantastic selection of restaurants and lively bars for a city of its size: check out Greifinn and Bautinn, as well as Noa for delicious, fresh seafood.

Facilities

Room service is available all day, and while there may be no pool or spa, it's the Northern Lights and the surrounding landscapes and wildlife that are the star of the show here.

Activities at Hotel Kea

See the Northern Lights from your bedroom and around the hotel - you'll be treated to a dazzling light show.

Akureyri is also a great base for exploring north-east Iceland’s stunning scenery, flora and fauna. Birdwatchers are very well catered for in the area, with three birdwatching cabins in the town itself and one on the nearby island of Hrísey: birdlife in the area includes the arctic tern, the lesser black-backed gull, and the black-tailed godwit. Grimsey Island is also easily accessible and is home to a unique collection of avian life, which has flourished due to rich fishing grounds in the surrounding waters, an absence of rats and mice on the island, and a decrease in the hunting of birds and collection of their eggs.

Meanwhile, the stunning rock formations at nearby Naustaborgir are a great place to hike, as is the nature park Krossanesborgir.
