2 nightsRHODES OLD TOWN

Your Dodecanese journey begins on the largest of the islands, Rhodes. Famous since time immemorial – the Colossus of Rhodes was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – the appeal of this enchanting island has not dimmed over time, and Rhodes town itself is a remarkable illustration of the rich melting pot of influences which have left their mark on the island. The Archaeological Museum is a fascinating visit which will help decipher the classical, medieval, Ottoman and other influences which shaped the cobbled streets of the Old Town, with artefacts spanning 7,000 years. The Hora neighbourhood of the Old Town, home to the pink-domed Mosque of Suleyman, preserves Rhodes’ Islamic history, while the Jewish Quarter is home to the oldest synagogue in Greece, built in 1577.

2 nightsSYMI

Departing Rhodes after two nights, you’ll board a boat to the peaceful and unspoilt island of Symi. The beautiful harbour sets the tone for the rest of the island, which is largely uninhabited apart from Symi Town and a couple of smaller settlements. Your home for two nights is a quiet guesthouse in a beautifully restored, centuries-old building in the heart of town. Day trips by boat can be arranged to explore the hidden coves which pepper the island’s coastline, while a trek to the hilltop village of Chorio and its ancient acropolis affords views of the Turkish peninsula, Yialos harbour and Pedi bay. To the south is the monastery at Panormitis, a site of alleged miracles which is flocked to by pilgrims for its healing powers. Inland from the rocky coastline, the island is carpeted with cypress forests.

3 nightsLINDOS

After two days’ relaxation on Symi, you’ll board a boat back to the island of Rhodes, heading this time for the ancient village of Lindos. Lying between two natural harbours with the ruins of its acropolis towering above the modern settlement from a cliff, Lindos is an eye-catching sight and a beautiful place to finish your Dodecanese journey. You’ll spend three nights at Melenos Lindos, a traditional village-style hotel overlooking the harbour with interiors influenced by traditional Turkish woodwork. A walk or donkey ride up to the ancient acropolis, which offers panoramic views of the coastline and ruins of a temple to Athena, is an absolute must during your time in Lindos. Meanwhile, St. Paul’s Bay is renowned as one of the finest beaches on all of Rhodes and is a great place for snorkelling, diving and other watersports. When you’re in need of refreshment, Lindos’ bustling, narrow streets have no shortage of bars and tavernas. After three nights of relaxation in Lindos, your journey to the jewels of the Dodecanese is over, and you’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
