If you’re after a room with a little more space, the 21 suites at Hotel Marmont are ideal. All are decorated in classic style, with fresh colours, oak floors, and walnut furniture. Plus, they have fantastic ‘rain’ showers. For extra privacy and luxury, book the Presidential Suite which has its own large sun terrace and an outdoor shower.

Food and facilities

Drinks and light bites can be enjoyed in Hotel Marmont’s lounge bar, but the nicest place to sit and soak up the history is in their courtyard restaurant. Later on, head up to the shady roof terrace and watch the sun set over the orange rooftops.

Pop in to St Duje’s cathedral, which has a fascinating blend between its origins as a Roman temple, and current incarnation as a Catholic church; soak up the buzz in the column-lined square, and explore the city vaults which have now been turned into the markets.
