Perched on the northern tip of a coastal peninsula, Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera is in a world of its own but is a short drive up the coast from Zadar, so you’re never far away should you be craving some urbanity. Sleek and modern throughout, this resort is brilliant for recharging in the excellent spa and is within easy reach of beautiful countryside and the Velebit mountain range.

The rooms and suites are as bright, breezy and modern as the rest of the hotel, with light wood floors, marine colour schemes, including bold stripes, and large balconies with beautiful views overlooking the sea. The beds are luxuriously comfortable and the suites feature separate relaxation areas.

Food & drink

Gourmands won’t be disappointed here, with several restaurants to choose from serving up Adriatic-Alpine cuisine inspired in equal measure by the Mediterranean coastline and Croatia’s Austro-Hungarian-influenced interior. At Bracera beach bar, fresh seafood is cooked over holm oak and olive wood and served to you beside the ocean, while Konobo Planika is a traditional Dalmatian tavern serving grilled meats, pastas and pizzas.

After dinner, there is a range of bars where you can enjoy a drink while the sun goes down.

Facilities

The Acquapura Spa is beautifully designed in a modern style and features extensive wellness treatments and facilities, including several indoor and outdoor pools, a Turkish hammam, a wellness garden with an outdoor whirlpool, a sauna area featuring a Finnish sauna, and more, as well as a gym. Yoga classes run regularly, and there are jogging routes around the resort. 

There are also various relaxation areas including dark rooms with relaxation swings and water beds, and you can enjoy healthy and delicious dishes at SPA Bistro.

If you can drag yourself away from the spa, there's plenty to do and see. Various water sports are available at the seafront, including water skiing and parasailing, and bike and boat rentals are available. Various gastronomic and cultural activities are also options, including fishing with local fishermen, vintage wine tasting and olive harvesting and pressing in the autumn.

Further afield, the vibrant city of Zadar is a short drive away, as are the magnificent Velebit Mountains and the stunning Modric cave.
