Hotel Overview

Sense of place

A stone’s throw from Diocletian’s palace, Azur Palace is itself housed in a historic building, albeit a slightly less grand one – the former home of a patrician family.

Rooms at Azur Palace

The hotel’s history is evident in original stone walls and wooden beams, but these are complemented by the modern artwork which adorns the walls and the stylish, contemporary furnishings. Many of the rooms and suites feature balconies overlooking Split old town and the courtyard, and Deluxe Quadruple Rooms feature a small upper level with a double bed, making them a great choice for families.

Food and drink

There was once an alcohol distillery on this site, and the hotel pays tribute to this aspect of its history by offering guests a free drink of visnjevac – a traditional cherry liquer – on arrival. An extensive breakfast is served every morning in the stylish breakfast hall, which has exposed brickwork and pays tribute to Split’s fishing heritage with wall-length artworks and an old wooden fishing boat which hangs upside down from the ceiling. Our pick of nearby restaurants is Konoba Matejuska, where the freshest seafood is served up alongside local white wines in a cosy tavern atmosphere.

Facilities

Azur Palace is family-run and friendly, and the staff will gladly help you out in any way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, from organising excursions to making restaurant recommendations. There is no pool, but Split has several beaches to choose from, including perennial family favourite Bacvice beach. Private parking is available at the hotel.

Activities at Azur Palace

Attractions within easy reach of the hotel include the statue of Gregory of Nin, a Croatian bishop – the statue’s toe has been buffed and smoothed by the throngs of tourists who believe rubbing it brings good luck. Also nearby is the landscaped Park Josipa Jurja Strossmayera, which is often home to flea and antique markets.
