Atop a cliff that overlooks Palliser Bay and Lake Ferry in the Wairarapa wine region.

Suites are set in a collection of quaint cottages spread across the estate, all within walking distance of the main lodge. In keeping with its rural surroundings, natural materials of clay tiles and pebble mosaics are incorporated into the design, while the interiors offer New Zealand wool carpets and hemp curtains, as well as private verandahs, heated marble floors and cosy open fireplaces.

Dining is a tailor-made affair, and chef Tim is happy to cook up anything you fancy. The menu is tailored to reflect the seasons and is famed for its excellent meat dishes – don’t miss the sumptuous Texel lamb.

The lodge’s gorgeous grounds are a blend of forests, lakes, river and pasture; take a stroll to see the animals, enjoy a chardonnay overlooking the rugged coastline, swim in the 24-metre pool, or have a game of croquet on the lawns. Further afield, tour the copious vineyards in this renowned wine region, or the striking black sand beaches along the coast.
