Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Wanaka is famous for its beauty, with forests and soaring mountains giving way to deep blue waters on the shoreline. Wanaka Haven is geared towards experiencing the environment as intensely as possible, with extensive use of wood and stone, outdoor seating areas, and large windows through which you can take in the landscape.

Rooms at Wanaka Haven

There are five beautiful rooms, with plush super-king-sized beds to ensure a good night's sleep, as well as flat-screen TVs, DVD players, iPod docks, colourful local artworks, geothermal underfloor heating to keep you cosy and warm, and private terraces where you can relax and take in the mountain vistas. If it’s a little chilly, you needn’t head outside to take in the view, as the rooms feature large floor-to-ceiling windows and French doors through which you can gaze at the mountains.

Food and drink

Dine on Kiwi specialities outdoors from the barbecue or indoors by the fireplace, and make the most of the extensive wine and beer collection. Wanaka Haven has a commitment to supporting local producers, and you’ll enjoy the freshest produce from local farmers, cheesemakers and other artisans. The hotel’s own edible garden and berry farm produces some of the fresh ingredients you’ll enjoy in the cuisine.

Facilities

Wanaka Haven has an outdoor entertainment area, which thanks to a beautiful fireplace hewn from local Otago schist stone you can enjoy year-round – there’s BBQ facilities so you can enjoy a delicious grilled dinner, or just relax with a drink. There's also a library where you can pick up a book, CD or DVD to enjoy.

Activities at Wanaka Haven

After exploring Wanaka, on foot or on one of the hotel's complimentary mountain bikes (there are walking and cycling tracks right near the hotel), visit the edible garden and berry farm or enjoy a swim in the pool. The scenic Wanaka golf course lies a few minutes away, and you can fish for brown trout, rainbow trout and salmon in the clean waters nearby. The snow which blankets this area in the winter months makes for great skiing and snowboarding, with the Treble Cone, Cardrona, Snow Park and Snow Farm ski areas all nearby.
