Hotel Overview

Where

A scenic 30 minute drive from Dunedin city, on New Zealand’s South Island in the Otago Peninsula.

Rooms at Kaimata Retreat

Built using Macrocarpa timber that’s been harvested on site, the hotel architecturally channels its natural surroundings. Huge exposed beams support the three ensuite rooms, each named after local birds. Floor to ceiling windows allow natural light to flood in, and provide sweeping views of the breathtaking scenery below.

Food and facilities

During summer, dinner is prepared by a seasonal chef. Wherever possible, food is sourced from local suppliers and hence, celebrates the cuisine of the southern regions. In winter, the Retreat is self-catering and bountiful breakfast provisions are provided.

Activities at Kaimata Retreat

Scour the coastline by private plane, visit the world’s only mainland colony of the Northern Royal Albatross, hike through the rugged Silverpeaks Reserve, or simply bird watch from your private deck. Private wildlife tours are also available with local guides, who will astound you with their knowledge.
