Regions in New Zealand

Set sail in the Bay of Islands, or kayak around the Abel Tasman National Park. Stay in scenic Lake Taupo for legendary trout fishing and unique native wildlife spotting, or journey through New Zealand to the thermal parks of Rotorua, the glaciers of the West Coast or to the remote fiords of the Southland.

Auckland will often be your first port of call and is an ideal introduction to this beautiful country, with its sparkling harbour and volcanic cones dotting the skyline. Surrounding the city are stunning beaches, rainforest landscapes and the heritage hotspot, the Bay of Islands.

Queenstown is New Zealand’s year-round adventure playground - but in addition to endless outdoor pursuits, you’ll also discover destination spas and award-winning wineries. Not far away, the quaint lakeside town of Wanaka is more laidback yet retains equally beautiful scenery and adventures.

Fiordland National Park is one of the largest national parks in the world, and showcases dramatic landscapes of soaring cliffs, deep lakes and thundering waterfalls. The beautiful fiords are also home to dolphins, fur seals and penguins, along with some of the most famous and most scenic hiking trails in New Zealand.

As New Zealand’s second largest city, Christchurch is re-emerging as a vibrant and eclectic destination. The surrounding region is rich in scenery and fantastic for outdoor pursuits – from the majestic Aoraki Mount Cook, to the extinct volcanoes and the glistening blue waters of Banks Peninsula.

One of New Zealand’s top wine producing regions, Hawke’s Bay is a food and wine lover’s paradise, and is a must-visit on your holiday to the North Island. Among the many wineries of note, the Mission Estate Winery is the oldest surviving vineyard in the country, and sits among a host of other well-known producers.

Wellington and Wairarapa together combine urban city life with exceptional wildlife experiences and quintessential New Zealand vineyards. Affectionately titled the ‘coolest little capital in the world’, Wellington has the charm of a small village paired with the style of a cosmopolitan city, and is so much more than just a capital city.

As New Zealand’s largest grape-growing region, Marlborough is home to numerous well-known boutique wineries producing internationally acclaimed wines, as well as the pristine and wildlife-filled waterways of the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, which are fantastic to explore.

The wild west coast of New Zealand is a land of contrasts, comprising lush green rainforest, beautiful seas and pristine white glaciers. As well as abundant wildlife, this range of dramatic landscapes is home to several national parks showcasing the highest mountains, the longest caves and the lowest glaciers in the country.

Heading south of Auckland to the east coast, you’ll encounter a spectacular coastline of white sand beaches and colourful marine reserves. From the Coromandel Peninsula, where you can dig your own bubbling spa pool at Hot Water Beach, to adrenaline-fuelled water sports, the range of activities in and out of the water is endless.
