Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Deep in the forest and overlooking the mountains near the town of Bright, Victoria, The Buckland sits in the shadow of Dingo Ridge and affords stunning views over Mount Buffalo and the surrounding peaks.

Rooms at The Buckland

Accommodation at The Buckland takes the form of four standalone studio cabins and ‘Number 5’, a larger cabin with separate sleeping and living areas. In keeping with the rest of the hotel, the atmosphere combines luxury and rusticity, with stone, timber, iron and steel everywhere you look, and large sliding doors opening out onto private decks overlooking Mount Buffalo and rolling vineyards.

Food and drink

Country-style breakfasts are served in the hotel’s breakfast lounge, a short walk from your studio. Your studio has a fully equipped kitchen so you can self-cater, and the decks each have a barbecue; a delicious grilled dinner under the stars is a great way to spend an evening. This region of Victoria is renowned for its food and boutique wineries, and there are numerous fantastic restaurants within easy reach in Bright. These include the Japanese-influenced Tani; modern Italian Simone’s; and the quirky Blackbird Café.

The Buckland is designed as a retreat for adults, and is unsuitable for children under the age of 16, although babies are welcome if you bring your own cot. Massage treatments can be arranged, in the privacy of your studio or on your deck, with the possibility of booking two massage therapists at the same time depending on availability. Flowers, chocolates, champagne and hampers containing local produce can also be arranged to mark a special occasion.

Activities at The Buckland

Nature lovers have a playground on their doorstep, with the verdant Buckland Valley providing endless opportunities for outdoor adventuring. Nearby Mount Buffalo is a pristine alpine plateau offering stunning views and a range of hiking trails to suit all ability levels. A popular cycling route is the scenic Murray to Mountains Rail Trail, as is the Alpine Audex Classic. To sample some of the region’s celebrated wine, head to Boynton’s Feathertop Winery or Ringer Reef Winery, both of which produce a superb range of cool-climate wines; if wine isn’t your thing, go to Bright Brewery for an exceptional range of Australian beers.
