Hotel Overview

Where

An hour away from Melbourne, in Mornington Peninsula, Australia’s most exciting food and wine region.

Rooms at Big Blue Backyard

Boardwalks lead you to Big Blue’s three individually designed private cottages, aptly called ‘hideaways’. With king size beds, private decks overlooking the coastal bush and indoor and outdoor bathing facilities, the hideaways are your own totally secluded enclaves to enjoy. We particularly like Africa – framed textiles from an African village garner the walls, whilst luxurious fabrics and cushions drape over the bed. It’s so peaceful here that you’ll only be able to hear the sounds of the ocean from your outdoor bush-spying spa bath.

Food and facilities

Paul’s homemade food is better than some of the hatted restaurants around St Andrews, with generous portions showcasing the best locally-sourced produce. There’s no sit-down restaurant here – both breakfast and dinner are brought to your room, ensuring total privacy and intimacy.

Activities at Big Blue Backyard

You’re next door to the national park, so take the afternoon to explore the beautiful scenery. St Andrews beach is also only a short walk away, and it’s so secluded that there’s rarely anyone else around. After a long day of walking, ask Lisa to arrange for a professional masseuse to iron out those aches and pains. Other popular activities include swimming with dolphins in Polperro, and taking a horseback tour through the wineries.
