Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Sails in the Desert has a prime position in the Red Centre, and is ideal for visiting Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta. A lookout point for Uluru is just a five-minute walk away - perfect for catching the mesmerising sunrises and sunsets.

Rooms at Sails in the Desert

The rooms and suites are stylish and comfortable, with plush beds and deluxe bathrooms, and have a neutral colour scheme and decor inspired by indigenous art and local Anangu creation stories, as well as the desert landscape. Some rooms have extended balconies, while the suites offer more space, including separate living and dining areas, a spa bath and multiple balconies overlooking the gardens.

Food & drink

Wake up to a delicious international buffet breakfast at the Ilkari restaurant, which also offers buffet dinners with everything from salads to seafood, or head to the Arnguli Grill for quality grilled options. The hotel's signature dishes feature the very best local produce, enriched by local indigenous flavours, including spices, grains and seeds, which are accompanied by fine Australian wines.

Enjoy tapas-style dishes and refreshing drinks at the Pira Pool Bar and the Walpa Lobby Bar.

Facilities

If you're looking for relaxation and pampering after a day of discovering the outback, cool off with a dip in the pool, or unwind poolside - and make sure you visit the beautiful spa, designed with total indulgence in mind.

Peruse the Mulgara art gallery in the lobby which displays significant aboriginal artworks. The surrounding Ayers Rock Resort has plenty of facilities too, including speciality shops, restaurants and galleries.

Activities at Sails in the Desert

Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities, including guided or self-guided garden walks through local native flora. Sit down for a bush yarn in the Circle of Sand with a local Anangu storyteller, learn how to throw a spear or boomerang with an indigenous guide, and support local artists by browsing the many artworks at the indigenous art markets. Ride a camel across the desert dunes, hop on a Harley, or embark on a base walk of Uluru.
