Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Mt Borradaile is a registered Aboriginal sacred space, set in 700 square kilometres of Arnhem Land’s beautiful wilderness, all billabongs, swamps, flood plains and rainforest.

Rooms at Davidson's Arhemland Safari Lodge

Each cabin has its own outdoor patio where you can relax and enjoy the peace and beauty of the bush. Cabins are comfortable, built from wood and corrugated metal with wood flooring and furnishings, giving them an organic feel which fits in well with your surroundings. The cabins are freestanding and en suite, and have either queen or twin beds, as well as ceiling fans to make sure you keep cool.

Food and drink

The lodge’s communal dining room is the camp’s social hub, a relaxed and informal setting to meet and chat with your fellow guests, and enjoy high-quality food and wine. Chances are you’ll get to know your neighbours well, in part due to the lodge’s tendency to keep guest numbers to a minimum even when they could accommodate more. An ever-rotating selection of regional, Australian and international dishes are served up, and the lodge is remarkably (given its remote location) accommodating of special dietary requirements and preferences. Alcohol cannot be brought into Arnhem Land, but there is a fully stocked and licensed bar at the lodge.

Facilities

The lodge has new, tastefully furnished communal areas which are comfortable places to relax and swap stories with your fellow guests. These encompass the dining and bar areas as well as a lounge, well-stocked library and an internet area, as well as a large outdoor deck where you can dine al fresco. There’s also an outdoor pool where you can dip and cool off after a day’s exploration in the wilderness.

Activities at Davidson's Arhemland Safari Lodge

The Arnhem Land region has been continuously inhabited for 50,000 years, and the Mt Borradile area is owned and managed by the indigenous Amurdak people. Relics of the area’s rich and colourful history are evident in magnificent rock art galleries, which span thousands of years from the Aboringal people’s ancient history to their first contact with other cultures and beyond. Tours of the galleries will teach you about the variety of painting styles and techniques used over history, and how they have changed over time. You can also tour historic burial sites and view fascinating artefacts discovered there, and – if you’re feeling adventurous – try some traditional bush tucker. The region is also home to some beautiful and rare species, including the bright red-and-blue Leichardt’s grasshopper.
