Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The hotel is run by a friendly family from Koh Kood, who imbue the resort with a homely atmosphere. The name ‘Shantaa’ is derived from the Hindi word for ‘calm’, which is exactly what you’ll find here.

Rooms at Shantaa Koh Kood

Accommodation at Shantaa is spread across 10 private villas scattered across a verdant hillside, surrounded by coconut trees and each overlooking the sea. Rooms are simple and stylish, with dark wood floors and furnishings contrasting with the light walls, fabrics, and bright sky outside your window. Each villa has a private terrace with a day bed, and an open garden bathroom with a rain shower.

Food and drink

Shantaa Koh Kood is home to no fewer than three restaurants, spread at different points along the beach – so take your pick depending on where you’re sunbathing. Shantaa Restaurant serves delicious Thai food in an open-sided setting overlooking the sea, while Shantaa Bar-BaRa serves drinks, smoothies and light bites. Shantaa Gathi Café, meanwhile, sits on the north beach and is a beautiful place to watch the sun go down with a cocktail in hand.

Facilities

Kayaking and snorkelling equipment are provided to guests free of charge, so you can explore the beautiful coastline at your leisure. A massage service is also on offer to help you relax and unwind, and there’s a boutique and jewellery shop onsite where you can pick up a souvenir to help you remember your stay. Motorbikes are available for rent if you’d like to explore the island of Koh Kood on your own terms.

Activities at Shantaa Koh Kood

The clear waters around Koh Kood are teeming with life and are great for swimming, snorkelling and fishing; a boat or kayak trip can take you out to nearby islands or to beaches like Ta Tin, which are accessible in no other way and accordingly deserted. A visit to a nearby fishing village will present an opportunity to meet local people and experience their way of life. Alternatively, of course, you can simply relax and enjoy Shantaa’s tranquillity, either with a massage or with a drink in hand at one of the bars. Yoga sessions are on offer led by an experienced teacher, Yogi Gagan.
