For a classic Thailand tonic, the tiny and picturesque island of Koh Samui never disappoints, and while it may be known in some quarters for its buzzing nightlife, we can whisk you in a flash to the most exclusive beach enclaves and serene spa retreats, where you’ll experience Thailand’s famous hospitality and exceptional level of service.
Koh Samui is also fantastic for those who like a little more to do than just relax on the beach, as you’ve got the option to go sea kayaking, sailing, and trekking to waterfalls, or – if you love your Thai cuisine – we can arrange a trip to the markets with a chef, before a private cooking lesson back at your hotel.
What we really recommend though is combining Koh Samui with its lower-key neighbour Koh Phangan, where again you can get well away from the full moon parties and enjoy genuinely ‘sleepy’ parts of the island. You’ll often find yourself on a totally deserted beach, and in the evening you can stroll to the lantern-lit fishing villages, which have a slightly more authentic and less commercial feel than Koh Samui.
If you don’t have much time on your hands, but want some relaxing beach time after buzzing Bangkok, head to the well-heeled coastal region of Hua Hin which is just a couple of hours outside of the city.
Nestled between virtually deserted white sand beaches and a lush mountain backdrop, Pranburi is the most elegant town within this district, where Thais rather than tourists generally head to escape the city, and here you’ll find a sophisticated mix of restaurants, bars, and colourful markets to explore at night.
Take the lead of the Thai royal family who have a summer bolt-hole in Pranburi, and enjoy some post city pampering in Hua Hin’s low-key yet exclusive hotels.
