In the knowThe resort’s turtle hatchery, operated together with Lang Tengah Turtle Watch in an exclusive partnership, is open during nesting season. Learn more about these majestic animals and the conservation initiatives in place. Due to these ongoing initiatives, some turtles have been returning to nest on the beach in front of the resort. If lucky, guests might even see them laying their eggs or witness the hatchlings return to the sea during the nesting season generally between April and September. There is also a turtle adoption programme that allows guests to protect the turtles long after they have left the resort.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Tanjong Jara is located on a long stretch of golden sandy beach on the East coast of Peninsular Malaysia, between Kuala Terengganu in the North and Kuantan in the South.

Rooms at Tanjong Jara Resort

The Bumbung, Serambi and Anjung rooms and suites incorporate sumptuous dark wood timbers and elegant rich fabrics and face the crystal clear waters of the South China Sea. Book one of the 10 single storey Anjung semi-detached rooms and relax in the symmetrical sunken outdoor bath in your own private courtyard.

Food & drinks

Dive into fresh seafood at Nelayan or head up to Di Atas Sungei, Malay for ‘above the river’, which is precisely where you’ll find this wonderful restaurant which serves authentic Malaysian dishes under the shade of a huge Ketapang tree. Or take advantage of the balmy evenings, with a five-course private dinner on the golden sand, lit by the soft glow of lanterns.

Facilities

The fabulous, highly acclaimed Spa is a must. After you’ve ticked off a few treatments, there are two swimming pools, tennis courts, a gymnasium and golf nearby.

Activities at Tanjong Jara Resort

There literally countless activities which take advantage of the surrounding area. Easy jungle walks with the resident guide, waterfall excursions with picnic lunches, eco-adventures with a cruise along the Marang River, a turtle hatchery during nesting season and spectacular seasonal snorkelling and diving… take your pick.

This is one of the best places in Malaysia for diving and Pulau Tenggol, a small island in the South China Sea off Tanjong Jara Resort, is still a well-kept secret. With the reef in almost perfect condition, where better place to learn to dive with the hotel’s PADI instructors.
