Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, Kota Kinabalu is set in 25 acres of landscaped gardens overlooking a beautiful bay, just outside the city of Kota Kinabalu.

Rooms at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru

The elegant rooms and suites, which are spread over two wings, come with plush beds and marble bathrooms, and feature traditional Borneo touches in the decor and colour schemes. The suites come with sitting rooms and dining areas. Enjoy magical views over the South China Sea, the coral islands or Mount Kinabalu from floor-to-ceiling windows, and take in the sunset over the sea from your private balcony.

Food & Drink

The resort has a number of superb restaurants, which serve a wide range of cuisine including traditional Malaysian specialities and international favourites. Wake up to a delicious buffet breakfast at Café TATU, and later in the day, enjoy Chinese dishes at Shang Palace, while at Coco-Joe's Bar & Grill, your gourmet meal will be accompanied by traditional cultural performances.

There’s also an ice-cream bar - a perfect way to cool off during the day - and fabulous cocktails for the evening at the aptly-named Sunset Bar, perched on the edge of the South China Sea.

Facilities

As with all Shangri-La resorts, the spa here is excellent and for total relaxation you can take a class in Tai Chi, or do yoga to the sound of lapping waves. There is a well-equipped gym and an impressive 2,000-square-metre pool with an infinity pool and Jacuzzi for adults, and a tapered shoreline for children, as well as a water play area and a kids club to keep them entertained. There's also tennis and table tennis on offer.

Activities at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru

The long stretch of private beach is perfect for sunbathing - but if you can drag yourself away, take a boat trip around the islands from the resort's private STAR Marina. You can also indulge in a range of water sports here, including kayaking and paddle boarding, and this is a fantastic spot for diving.

Back on land, explore stunning jungles and nature reserves, where you can see orangutans and the famous giant Rafflesia flower - the largest flower in the world - and find out more about Shangri-La's various nature and marine conservation programmes.
