Hotel Overview

The ward of Nakagyo-kyu in the heart of Kyoto, perfectly located for exploring this ancient city’s temples, shrines and historical sites.

Rooms at Tawaraya Ryokan

Showcasing the traditional wabi-sabi aesthetic, rooms at Tawaraya Ryokan are simple and minimalist, but all are supremely comfortable, with traditional tatami mat floors and huge windows which overlook the ryokan’s beautiful private garden.

Food and facilities

In keeping with Tawaraya’s meditative atmosphere, there’s no bar – but you can take tea in the peaceful library. Traditional multi-course Japanese breakfasts and dinners are served to you in your room, in keeping with the immaculate levels of service for which Tawaraya has become famous.

Activities at Tawaraya Ryokan

With centuries of tradition as one of the finest ryokan in all of Japan, most of the emphasis at Tawaraya is the complete submersion it allows you into old-world Japan, and with world-class dining, beautiful gardens, and impossibly impeccable service, you probably won’t want to leave. That said, Kyoto boasts several unmissable sites, including the Temple of the Golden Pavilion and the Kiyomizu-dera Shrine.
