Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The houseboat travels along the Sekonyer River in Tanjung Puting National Park, near Kumai, on the southern border of Central Kalimantan, which is the start point for your trip. The park is home to a rich wildlife scene and a network of beautiful tree-lined waterways.

Rooms on the Kalimantan Houseboat

The comfortable wooden houseboats are known locally as klotoks. Each one has private cabins with a private bathroom with cold-water showers (which are refreshing in the heat), and there are also beds on deck for a fully immersive jungle sleepover. Mosquito nets are provided.

Food & Drink

The boat trips offer full-board accommodation, and all the delicious meals are carefully prepared by an onboard chef, who will tailor dishes to suit your preferences. Savour local flavours and produce, and enjoy al fresco dining on deck alongside the sights and sounds of the surrounding jungle - and perhaps see some monkeys swinging through the nearby trees.

Facilities

The onboard crew includes a guide and a driver, as well as your chef, who will ensure your stay is comfortable and tailored to your preferences, helping you make the most of your holiday. On deck there are plenty of secluded spots to relax and take in the views as you glide along the river, with recliners and mattresses scattering the klotok. Keep an eye out along the waterways for crocodiles, and at night, you'll be treated to the magical sight of fireflies lighting up the riverbanks.

Activities on the Kalimantan Houseboat

You’ll spend your days drifting along the Sekonyer River, making frequent stops at camps along the way to delve deeper into the jungle, including the famous Camp Leakey, where you can trek into the jungle to see orangutans and observe them at feeding time.

Your private guide will tailor your bespoke excursions to suit you. As well as seeing orangutans (a definite highlight), you’ll also get opportunities to go on day and night-time nature hikes, immerse yourself in local culture with visits to traditional Malayan villages, and take part in a local reforestation scheme by helping to plant a native tree.
