Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Overlooking the volcanic foothills of the mighty Mount Bromo, Plataran Bromo has a dramatic position perfect for soaking up the wild, rugged landscapes of East Java. Terraced farmland decorates the plains, while Mount Bromo itself smokes away to the south.

Rooms at Plataran Bromo

Accommodation at Plataran Bromo is an eclectic affair, with room types varying widely in size but all sharing a distinctive industrial-chic style. The Deluxe Rooms are characterised by stylish whitewashed brickwork, which have private bathrooms with walk-in showers. Deluxe Attic Rooms occupy an atmospheric spot up in the roof, complete with slanted ceilings criss-crossed with wooden beams.

For the ultimate in privacy and luxury, go for the Private Pool Family Villa, an elegant wood-panelled home from home with three bedrooms and an outdoor pool.

Food & Drink

If Indonesian food's your thing, you're in luck - Plataran Bromo has several lovely restaurants, lounges and bars serving up classic dishes from the country's rich culinary repertoire, using fresh locally-grown ingredients, as well as tempting drinks. Enjoy a delicious meal before picking up some Indonesian handicrafts or admiring some local art over a rich Javanese coffee.

At Teras Bromo, your food is accompanied by a spectacular view, with rolling farmland spilling out into the horizon. Keep an eye out for Indonesian classics, like nasi goreng, beef rendang and chicken satay, alongside specific Javanese specialities like ayam goreng (coconut-fried chicken).

Facilities

In the stunning setting of a hilltop overlooking Mount Arjuna is the hotel’s very own amphitheatre, where cultural performances are brought to life with the help of a state-of-the-art sound system.

The hotel is an arts showcase, and at the JivaDevi gallery you can browse some beautiful Indonesian arts and crafts.

Activities at Plataran Bromo

The hotel’s jeep checkpoint - with an impressive fleet of 100 vehicles - is the place to go to embark on your adventures in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. There’s no doubting what the main attraction is in this part of the world: the temperamental Mount Bromo is Indonesia’s most famous volcano, and surely its most beautiful, rising up dramatically out of the so-called ‘sea of sand’ which it regularly replenishes with its violent volcanic eruptions. Hiking around the volcano is actually pretty manageable, and a highlight of any visit here - a sunrise breakfast picnic on the slopes is an unforgettable way to start the day.

Trips are also on offer to a sacred cave temple at the foot of the mountain, where the local Tenggerese people make offerings - both in praise of the life-giving fertility of Bromo’s slopes, and in awe of the devastating power of its eruptions.

Aside from Mount Bromo, you can visit the ruins of an ancient and once-mighty Hindu-Buddhist kingdom or be a Bromo farmer for the day and learn about how organic vegetables are grown using traditional age-old techniques.
