Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Cast away in a remote archipelago in Raja Ampat, Batbitim Island floats just south of the Equator. Encased by one of the world’s most dazzling reefs, it offers breathtaking diving and snorkeling opportunities and dreamy, shallow waters that are just perfect for swimming.

Rooms at Misool Eco Resort

Built entirely of reclaimed tropical hardwoods, the villas blend seamlessly into their environment. Choose between a stilted water lodge elevated above the North Lagoon, or a selection of remote rustic villas backing the South Beach. Villas are wonderfully private, with hammocks hanging on the verandas and secluded open-air showers for that true at-one-with-nature feeling.

Food & drink

Dining choices are somewhat limited due to the remoteness of the island, but the excellent restaurant serves a wide range of Asian and Western cuisine incorporating local and organic ingredients from the orchard. Nestled in the shade of the coconut palms, it’s situated on the beach overlooking the North Lagoon, and serves four meals per day plus afternoon tea on the terrace. Staying true to their values, the resort promises not to serve reef fish or prawns due to unsustainable fishing practices in the area.

Facilities

Built on stilts over the North Lagoon, the excellent dive centre is fully equipped for the professional diver, with a large work station, library, lounge area and monitor for projecting photos from the day’s dives. After a day out in the water, retreat to the Misool Spa for a massage or beauty treatment using all natural products.

Activities at Misool Eco Resort

Diving is the main event at Misool; the dive centre operates three guided boat dives per day, along with additional dusk and night dives. You’ll head out to explore the enormous reef, which spans 17,000 square miles and is home to over 700 species of mollusks and 1,400 species of fish. For the non-divers, the resort runs a number of other excursions, including a Romantic Beach Castaway Experience, a boat trip to local villages, birdwatching cruises, or a speed-boat ride to the mangroves and deserted beaches in the north. Closer to home, snorkeling opportunities from the island’s shore are fantastic, as are cocktails on the restaurant terrace at sunset.
