Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Tanah Gajah is a haven of tranquillity nestled in five hectares of sprawling paddy fields, a mere 3km from the centre of Ubud, Bali’s thriving cultural capital. In keeping with the artistic bent of Ubud, the hotel showcases many of the original pieces of Balinese art owned by Hendra Hadiprana, the famous art collector who used to reside in the estate.

Rooms at Tanah Gajah

Walkways dotted with bubbling fountains and exotic flora and fauna lead you to the elegant Balinese art-filled suites and villas at this charming hideaway. They are luxurious and full of character, and their attractive indoor and outdoor spaces are adorned with hand-carved wooden furnishings and original art, with generously large bedrooms alongside outdoor showers and a deep outdoor bathtub lit by sunken lights.

Private terraces look out over the lotus and lily ponds - we love the lotus pond, which is home to a family of regal-looking white and black swans. Your private butler will make you feel like a VIP during your stay, and the Pool Villas come with their own private pool.

Food & Drink

Dine in style at the Tempayan restaurant, set under a traditional Balinese thatched roof, looking out over the rice paddies and the jungle beyond, Enjoy Western and Asian specialities, including rice from the surrounding paddies.

Indulge in afternoon tea, and at the Panen Padi Lounge, which sits in an elevated position in the grounds, you can enjoy panoramic views while tucking into tasty tapas and sipping signature cocktails featuring herbs from the organic gardens.

Facilities

Only the finest organic ingredients are used at the spa, where locally-inspired treatments can be enjoyed in private suites that open on to panoramic views of the verdant rice paddies. Treat yourself to a signature massage. Alternatively, relax with a book by the pool or enjoy a refreshing dip, have a workout in the gym, or join the morning yoga class.

Activities at Tanah Gajah

Make sure you get up early to take in the stunning sunrise over the sacred Mount Agung, the highest mountain in Bali, before heading off for a stroll around Ubud. Visit the multi-tiered temples and rural farms in the local area on a village tour.

Tanah Gajah offers a range of memorable curated experiences, including hot air ballooning adventures, the chance to paint your own Balinese masterpiece, guided treks in search of the Hindu goddess who protects the beautiful local landscapes, and private access to the impressive art collection in the company of a renowned expert.

In the evening, enjoy a performance of traditional Kecak dancing in the hotel's open-air amphitheatre.
