Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Surya Shanti is located in the small rural village of Sidemen, sprawling across a flourishing valley that remains isolated from the beaten tourist track. Sidemen is approximately one hour from Ubud.

Rooms at Surya Shanti Villa

The 11 thatched accommodations are scattered across four different villas, each built in harmony with their environment using locally sourced materials. Four-poster beds and local Balinese interiors adorn the rooms, while private balconies and terraces gaze out toward the magnificent Mount Agung. Some rooms also have their own secluded open-air bathrooms, while others have beds with panoramic views.

Food & drink

The resident chef fuses Balinese cooking with global flavours, and the menu changes with the season in order to incorporate home grown vegetables from the garden and fresh produce from the nearby market. Choose to dine on the terrace at the restaurant, or in a more peaceful spot in the garden. The chef also runs regular cooking classes to teach the art of Balinese cooking in a charming traditional kitchen.

Facilities

There are two swimming pools with a neighbouring bar, as well as an open-air living area, library, and a riverside spa offering an array of treatments and massages. The perfectly manicured gardens blend into their wild backdrop, with blooming flowers and plant species adding a smattering of colour to the verdant surroundings.

Activities at Surya Shanti Villa

Regular shuttles run to and from Sidemen, where a market and craft shops make for good souvenir opportunities. The property also runs daily morning treks into the surrounding rice fields, offering an educational insight into Bali’s staple food. Don’t miss an evening of Balinese entertainment, to experience Gamelan music and dancing performances.

Further afield, take a spiritual journey to Mount Agung, try an exhilarating white water rafting course at Telaga Waja, go on a traditional boat ride and snorkelling trip to Pasir Putih, or shop for handicrafts in Ubud: Bali’s cultural core.
