Located in the heart of the Keliki rainforest in Bali, Capella Ubud is the perfect hotel for getting back to nature and disconnecting from the outside world. Refusing to destruct the natural surroundings, renowned architect Bill Bensley designed only 22 rooms, which has meant not a single tree was destroyed in the process of building this luxury camp. As well as adding a touch of luxury and signature Bensley style, this also ensures an unspoilt experience of the lush green forests it sits in.
Perfect forAnyone looking for an immersive experience of the rainforest - without stinting on luxury.
In the knowThe restaurant, Mads Lange, is named after Danish spice trader and peacemaker of Bali Mads Johansen Lange, who was nicknamed ‘The White King of Bali’.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Capella Ubud sits in Keliki Valley amidst Bali’s tropical rainforest, by the River Wos and sheltered by trees. Attractions such as the Elephant Safari Park and the Tegallalang Rice Terrace aren’t far away.

Rooms at Capella Ubud

This exclusive camp is made up of just 22 one-bedroom luxury tents, which are spread around the paddy fields and hidden among the trees. There is also a two-bedroom lodge, which is ideal for families. They showcase a traditional Balinese style, adding a luxurious twist. Bensley’s design was inspired by the European settlers of the 1800s, and he carefully selected components such as roll-top copper baths and dark wood furniture to take you on a journey to the past. They also feature art and antiques from the owner’s private collection.

All rooms have indoor and outdoor bathrooms and large outdoor decks, linked by suspension bridges, providing stunning views of the rainforest, alongside private saltwater Jacuzzis for you to relax and enjoy the view from.

Food & drink

The menu at the elegant Mads Lange restaurant is inspired by the historic spice trail and makes the most of locally-farmed ingredients. For a traditional Asian barbecue feast, go to Api Jiwa, or have a private picnic or candlelit dinner in the jungle or the rice paddies.

Morning coffee, afternoon tea and daily evening cocktails and canapés are served in the Officers Tent. In the evening, linger over hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows under the stars, listening to the tales of a local storyteller or watching a movie about Bali, or visit the Mortar and Pestle Bar for handcrafted cocktails and light snacks.

Facilities

There is a saltwater rainforest pool to swim in and lounge by, and for some pampering, a range of treatments is available at the spa or can be enjoyed in your own tent. The treatments focus on cleansing, balance and revitalisation, with programmes that correspond with different phases of the moon.

On arrival, you will receive a welcome duffel bag full of camp essentials, and a dedicated Capella personal assistant will be on hand during your stay.

Activities at Capella Ubud

The hotel offers plenty of ways to explore your surroundings and immerse yourself in local culture, including its signature ‘confined to 24 hours’ experience which lasts from sunrise to sunset, beginning with a Balinese holy water ritual and ending with a purification ritual at the Wos Beji River temple. An adventure experience involves a visit to an active volcano, a culinary experience which will see you master the art of coffee brewing, and a cultural experience where you can learn the Keliki style of painting and enjoy a traditional Balinese picnic lunch.

Head out on scenic guided treks through the rainforest and rice paddies, or borrow one of the hotel’s mountain bikes to explore. There are also daily car transfers into the centre of Ubud.
