Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The hotel is housed in a former sugar mill, and period features abound, with a chic industrial feel and local bamboo and stone characterising its interiors.

Rooms at Alila Yangshuo

Alila Yangshuo’s guestrooms and suites exhibit a stylish, minimalist design, with light wood floors and huge floor-to-ceiling windows providing panoramic views of the karst formations and greenery outside. Rooms in the Sugar House building boast views over the Li River, while Garden Townhouse rooms overlook the resort’s verdant bamboo groves from their own terrace. The two Heritage Suites, sitting on the upper floor of the old sugar mill, give a real feel for the hotel’s history.

Food & Drink

At the Sugar House Restaurant, housed in the mill’s old pressing room, a range of Chinese and Western dishes are on offer, which change with the seasons but always have one thing in common: a commitment to a farm-to-table ethos. The 1969 Bar, meanwhile, is one of Yangshuo’s most stylish nightspots, located in the mill’s old pressing room and paying homage to the hotel’s history in sugar with a range of rum based cocktails – and there’s even an in-house rum distillery.

Facilities

The cutting-edge Spa Alila is inspired by Yangshuo’s karst caves, lying underground and accessed by a stone-cut spiral staircase, which gives it a feeling of magic before you even get inside. A wide range of wellness therapies are on offer, many of them drawing on Balinese traditions, while many of the products are made with local black sugar in a nod to the hotel’s former life.

Activities at Alila Yangshuo

Yangshuo is justly famous for its beautiful natural landscapes, populated with dramatic karst limestone mountains, serene rivers and rolling hills. The hotel offers a wide range of activities to help you make the most of the region; you can get your first taste of rock climbing on the gardens’ own karst hill before venturing further afield.

Try out traditional sugar spinning in the old mill, and get a taste of traditional life at the ancient bazaar in nearby Fuli. A cruise down the Li River is a beautifully peaceful way to pass a day, while the rice terraces which dot the surrounding countryside make the perfect backdrop for hiking and cycling.
