Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Nestled in gorgeous botanical gardens flowering among the surrounding rice paddies, Sala Lodges occupies a blissfully peaceful spot at the gateway to the great Angkor Wat. With nothing but greenery and traditional villages nearby, you’ll feel deeply immersed in quintessential Cambodia.

Rooms at Sala Lodges

There are 11 traditional stilted houses here, each with their own individual histories and architecture. The owners spent two years sourcing, refurbishing and transporting the houses, and the oldest dates back to the late 1950s. Inside, they are decorated with rich woods, antique furnishings, local artisan features, king-size beds and rainshowers, offering the perfect marriage of authenticity and luxury. Relax on your balcony and soak up the tranquil and beautiful surroundings.

Food & drink

The head chef at The Monolith restaurant fuses flavours of the occident and the orient, with ingredients sourced from the local market each morning, and seasonal fruit, vegetables and spices coming from the hotel’s garden. For a flavour of local Khmer cuisine, try the Tonle Sap fish fillet sourced from the nearby lake. The Monolith also offers tapas dishes and lighter bites throughout the day. Dining takes place at the Long Table, which hosts regular barbecues. Adjoining the dining area is an al fresco lounge, perfect for daytime juices, coffees or cocktails to be sipped in an armchair beneath the shade of a parasol.

In the morning, tuck into a breakfast of Khmer and western favourites, including fresh fruit, juices, freshly-baked pastries, eggs and coffee. In the evening, head to the pool bar for drinks, snacks and live music.

In stark contrast to their surroundings, the communal areas showcase contemporary design, with a dazzling infinity pool shaded by frangipani trees as the centerpiece. For extra relaxation, in-room massages can also be arranged.

Activities at Sala Lodges

With so much to be explored in the area, you’ll never find yourself bored at Sala Lodges. Once you’ve discovered the truly astonishing Angkor Wat - the largest religious monument ever constructed - visit the walled city of Angkor Thom, which served as the capital of the Khmer Empire during the 12th century, or the pink sandstone temple of Banteay Srei, which dates back to the 10th century and is famed for its wonderfully preserved sculptures.

Explore the surrounding villages by bicycles or tuk tuk - both available from the lodge - or head out to Tonle Sap Lake, which offers tremendous birdwatching and kayaking opportunities. There’s also horse riding, photography tours, helicopter rides, cooking classes and a wealth of sightseeing tours on offer.
