Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Hop onboard the Anawrahta as it takes you from the ancient city of Bagan, a historic site of over 2,000 Buddhist monuments to Mandalay, and vice versa. Throughout the duration of your five-day cruise, you will get to explore the ancient cities of Sagaing (home to a plethora of white-gold hillside pagodas), Ava (formerly ‘Inwa’, home to the remains of religious structures from the 14th and 19th centuries), Yanderbo (a village known for its pottery), and Pakokku (a charming town which once served as a port and transit point for travellers).

Rooms onboard the Anawrahta

You’ll feel transported to a different era in your spacious suite, which has been carefully decorated to emulate the elegance of colonial times with white rails, old-style armchairs and carved woodwork. The bathroom is equally as luxurious, with marble tops, tiled walls and gold-framed mirrors – not to mention a grand, standalone bath with a view of the river through the window.

Food & Drink

Experience the best local cuisine in an elegant and relaxed atmosphere while seated in an old-fashioned, wooden fauteuil at the Hintha Hall restaurant. Afterwards, head to the Kipling Bar on the Terrace Deck for cocktails.

The ship has four spacious decks for yoga classes in the morning and for admiring the views of the Irrawaddy River. Enjoy a soak in the pool on the deck in the evening (which offers panoramic 360-degree views of the river) or a cocktail at the bar after a successful day of exploring the historic towns.

Activities onboard the Anawrahta

Start your day with a sunrise yoga class on the deck, with a soothing river backdrop, and end it with a cinematic experience under the stars after your expeditions. There are many expeditions included in this cruise, including the 19th-century teak monastery of Bagaya Kyaung and Maha Aung Mye Bonzan Monastery in Ava, the charming villages of Yanderbo and an optional hot air balloon experience over Bagan.

The trip has been curated to bring the best of Burmese culture to you so you’ll be treated to a traditional Bagan dance performance and presentations on the country’s culture and traditions. On your last night, a farewell party will be thrown to send you off in style - a memorable end to your cruise.
