Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Hop onboard the Anawrahta as it takes you from the ancient city of Bagan, a historic site of over 2,000 Buddhist monuments to Mandalay, and vice versa. Throughout the duration of your cruise (options from 2 to 4 nights are available), you will get to see ancient cities, hillside pagodas and charming towns.

The Anawrahta also sails to Chindwin (11 nights) and around northern Burma (7 nights).

Rooms onboard the Anawrahta

You’ll feel transported to a different era in your spacious room or suite - the suites are some of the largest suites offered on the river. Each room has been carefully decorated to emulate the elegance of colonial times, with an attractive heritage-inspired design throughout, including white rails, old-style armchairs and carved woodwork. The bathrooms are equally as luxurious, with marble tops, tiled walls and gold-framed mirrors - not to mention a grand, standalone bath with a view of the river through the window.

All suites have big private balconies, and for an added luxurious touch, the largest suites also come with a private outdoor Jacuzzi.

Food & Drink

Experience the best local cuisine in an elegant and relaxed atmosphere while seated in an old-fashioned, wooden fauteuil at the Hintha Hall restaurant. Afterwards, head to the Kipling Bar on the Terrace Deck for cocktails after a successful day of exploring the historic towns.

Facilities

The Anawrahta has four spacious decks for yoga classes in the morning and for admiring the views of the Irrawaddy River. Enjoy a soak in the large pool on the huge sundeck in the evening (which offers panoramic 360-degree views of the river). There is also a sauna and three spa rooms to relax in.

Activities onboard the Anawrahta

There are plenty of opportunities to explore the sights during your journey, including historic monasteries in Ava, ancient Sagaing (home to a plethora of white-gold hillside pagodas), Yanderbo (a village known for its pottery), and Pakokku (a charming town which once served as a port and transit point for travellers). You can also enjoy a hot air balloon experience over Bagan. After an exhilarating day's adventures, watch a movie under the stars.

These trips, which include themed cruises such as gourmet and wellness cruises, are expertly curated to bring the best of Burmese culture to you so you’ll be treated to a traditional Bagan dance performance and presentations on the country’s culture and traditions. On your last night, a farewell party will be thrown to send you off in style - a memorable end to your cruise.
