Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Sanctuary Ananda cruises along the Irrawaddy and Chindwin rivers, taking in some of Myanmar’s iconic sights along the way, as well as historic towns, remote villages and dense jungles.

Rooms onboard Sanctuary Ananda

Sanctuary Ananda has been custom-built for Myanmar’s rivers by local craftsmen, using traditional materials, and the interiors showcase the heritage of the area, while offering sleek contemporary luxury. There are 21 spacious suites spread out over three decks (the boat has a maximum of 42 guests), which are bedecked in lush silks, polished teak and colourful lacquerware, alongside comfortable beds with Egyptian cotton sheets, iPads and complimentary Wi-Fi, and air conditioning to keep you cool. The elegant ensuite bathrooms have monsoon showers, and each suite has its own private balcony, perfect for relaxing on and taking in the river views.

Food & drink

Enjoy al fresco breakfast and lunch buffets, and in the evening, feast on Asian and international dishes at a la carte restaurant Talifoo. The delicious menu makes the most of fresh produce from the village markets, and Myanmar’s colourful flavours include lemongrass, kaffir lime and sweet chilli. Relax in the Kansi panorama lounge, by its picture windows, for afternoon tea or an evening cocktail (we recommend the signature Sanctuary Sour).

Facilities

Relax on the sun deck and admire the ever-changing scenery floating by, then cool off with a dip in the plunge pool. The onboard fitness centre offers workout options for active guests, and there is also a library.

Activities at Sanctuary Ananda

During your cruise, enjoy visits to sights from pagodas to palaces, and from temples to monasteries, before hopping back onboard for a yoga session, meditation class or relaxing massage and Ananda facial in the spa. There are also expert lectures and demonstrations onboard, giving you a chance to find out more about the landscapes you’re travelling through, and cooking demonstrations for foodies to get involved with.
