Chilo Gorge, Zimbabwe

5 nightsGONAREZHOU NATIONAL PARK

In the southeastern reaches of Zimbabwe, tucked mercifully away from the main tourist trail, lies Gonarezhou National Park. The perfect place to begin your Zimbabwean adventure, its rugged expanse of wilderness is home to thousands of elephants, among other iconic African fauna. You’ll enjoy 3 nights at Chilo Gorge Safari Lodge, a luxuriously appointed lodge set amid the forested cliffs of Chilo Gorge. With guided game drives and fantastic birding on the Tambahata Pan, Gonarezhou is a great place to get to know the local wildlife, while a visit to Mahenye Village to experience the way of life of the local Shangaan people is not to be missed. After 3 nights in the camp, you’ll venture into the park itself for 2 nights in the heart of the wilderness, staying in spacious A-frame tents.

3 nightsMATOBO NATIONAL PARK

From Gonarezhou, you’ll take a private road transfer to Matobo National Park. Famed for its extraordinary and beautiful geology, the region’s granite landscapes have been shaped by the elements into bizarre, alien rock formations which have been of spiritual significance to local people for millennia – a trip to one of the over two thousand sites of San rock art is a must. Carved into the rock is the unique Camp Amalinda, your home during your time in the Matobo Hills. Get to know the area by taking a tour with a local archaeologist, visit the final resting place of Cecil Rhodes, or gain an insight into the everyday life of the local Matabele with a visit to a local village. The park is also home to an abundance of iconic African wildlife, including white rhino, leopard, and the world's highest concentration of black eagles.
