The Hide

Location: Hwange National Park | Zimbabwe

Price guide: £££££ More than £500 per person per night

Our favourite safari tales stem almost entirely from stays at The Hide - imagine watching wild dog hunting impala in the camp, getting sprayed with mud by elephants in the hide and sleeping in a treehouse that is surrounded by herds of elephant and buffalo warding off a pride of lion! Well known, much loved and forever at the top of our list, The Hide is spectacularly placed to offer some of the best game-viewing we've ever encountered. As The Hide spills out onto the edge of a very active waterhole, which attracts wildlife in the hundreds, you can spend your days by the pool watching the animals come to you but, with a series of exceptional guides on hand, we recommend heading into the national park for some serious big cat action.

Perfect forCramming a lifetime of epic wildlife experiences into a few days - also just ideal for either a romantic honeymoon or family-centred luxury safari adventure.

Hotel Overview

Sense of place

The Hide is situated in a 5km private concession on the eastern boundary of the famous Hwange National Park - a particular favourite of ours.

Rooms at The Hide

The Hide’s ten tents (deluxe, family or honeymoon suites) are extremely comfortable and spacious, and feature indoor and outdoor bathtubs and showers. They are classically styled and tastefully furnished with solid Zimbabwean teak furniture and include a private veranda from where you can watch zebra, kudu, giraffe and elephant come and go.

Tom's Little Hide offers 3 large en-suite rooms, centred around a dining room, lounge area and plunge pool. This is ideal for families who want their own privacy, as well as a private guide, vehicle and chef.

Food and facilities

Breakfast is served al fresco and lunch and dinner are served at a magnificent teak dining table: the hub of the camp is a majestic “A” frame which comprises the dining room and sun lounge downstairs and a large comfortable lounge and viewing area upstairs.

Activities at The Hide

Private and peaceful with no TV or internet to distract guests, the emphasis at The Hide is on great game and bird viewing. With a family of experienced, knowledgeable and enthusiastic guides, activities on offer at The Hide include morning, afternoon and evening game drives, walking with a professional guide, pan sits, hide sits and bird watching. For an added thrill, we recommend the overnight sleep-out in the Dove's Nest treehouse.

Hotel location

Most guests fly into Victoria Falls and then take the 2-hour road transfer to Hwange Main Camp, where a representative of The Hide will be waiting. The Hide is 1-hour drive from the main camp through the national park, which is conducted in an open air safari vehicle and offers game viewing opportunities.
