Hotel Overview

Where

Just outside South Luangwa National Park, Zambia.

Rooms at Nkwali

The open-fronted chalets at Nkwali have soaring thatched roofs, and ensuite bathrooms with showers open to the stars. The stunning design brings the outdoors in, and the natural materials make guests feel as if they are part of the bush.

Food and Facilities

Making the most of nature is the order of the day here- the bar sits on the edge of the river and is built around an ancient ebony tree, and meals are often eaten al fresco: lunch in the shade of the trees, and dinner by the light of the full moon. There’s a pool at Nkwali, little used in the cooler months of June and July, but absolute bliss by the time the sweltering heat of October comes along!

Activities at Nkwali

Game drives go out in the morning, afternoon or evening. Walking safaris (a speciality of the South Luangwa) are a must, and boat safaris on the river are a delight during the green season. After a hard day safari-ing, a range of massages from hot stone therapy to Thai full body massage can be provided. Worth particular mention are the range of activities on offer for children - everything from “poo safaris” to fishing to baking in the kitchen.
