Puku Ridge

On a hillside in South Luangwa, with some of the best views in the park.

There are just 7 luxury tents at Puku Ridge, which gives the camp a really intimate feel. They’re beautifully designed, with wrap-around decks which give you incredible views of the plains, and showers open to the skies. Unusually for South Luangwa, the tents come with electricity and hairdryers - great for those who like a few more creature comforts.

Meals are taken in the main dining area at Puku Ridge, where there’s also a bar, although you may find that the views over the floodplain distract you from your G&Ts! As for facilities, these aren’t really something that safari camps tend to excel in – after all, one of the great joys of being here is in escaping the clutter of modern life. Who needs facilities when you have an endless starscape, charming, knowledgeable guides and lions roaring in the distance?

Puku Ridge is deep in big game territory, so activities focus on game drives and walking safaris. Game drives allow you to get up close and personal with some of the larger (and more dangerous) animals, and take some excellent photos. Walking safaris, on the other hand, are more about gaining an understanding of the bush: listening to the bird call, and feeling the bark on the trees, and dust beneath your boots. The two totally different experiences give guests at Puku Ridge an all-round safari which we can highly recommend.
