Hotel Overview

sense of place

Surrounded by mahogany trees and close to a lagoon where hippos and crocodiles gather to drink, Luwi Bush Camp is truly in the heart of the wilderness. The Luwi River flows nearby, and hippos, lions and wild dogs are among the inhabitants.

rooms at luwi bush camp

The rooms are lovingly rebuilt every season from local natural materials, yet retain high levels of comfort, with en-suite bathrooms and hot water. There are four lodges, each rustic but comfortable, and made and decorated with wood and reeds. The Honeymoon Chalet features one wall which swings open onto a private patio, where you can enjoy a romantic dinner.

food & drink

Mealtimes at Luwi revolve around your schedule of game walks and drives. Breakfast is served around the campfire before your morning game walk, after which you’ll return home to find a hearty brunch laid on beneath the mahogany trees. Dinner is a lavish, three-course affair served by candlelight under the stars, and food is hearty and high-quality, with delicious barbecued meats and locally sourced vegetables. The camp also has a fully stocked bar, and discussing the day’s adventures over a sundowner is a daily ritual.

facilities

Needless to say, this being a remote safari camp, facilities are somewhat thin on the ground, although you’ll find everything you need to make your stay comfortable. There’s a small library where you can read up on the local flora and fauna which you’ll be spotting on walks and drives. Children under the age of 12 are not accepted at the camp, and those over the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult at all times.

activities at luwi bush camp

The big draw at Luwi Bush Camp is the opportunity to track big game, including lions, on foot – a magical experience that will stay with you for a lifetime. Walking safaris can be complemented with game drives, and other beasts which inhabit this area include reed buck, hartebeest, and wild dogs. At the nearby lagoon, a hide has been constructed to allow you to watch the resident hippos up close safely.
