Hotel Overview

Sense of place

Katara Lodge is nestled on a hillside in the Great Rift Valley escarpment, 16km from the Katunguru gate of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Rooms at Katara Lodge

The lodge’s eight cottages have been hand-built using local materials, with wooden floors and furnishings and thatched roofs. The cottages are simple and authentic and the oversized windows in the rooms and bathrooms mean the focus is on the amazing uninterrupted views of the park. Admire the views from your bed, from your private terrace or even from the bath.

The cottages have a double bed and a four-poster outdoor 'star bed', while the family cottages have two bedrooms and a larger living area. Children can enjoy the swing seat and hammocks on the outside veranda of the family cottages.

Food & drink

Guests can choose to dine al fresco or in the main building. We recommend ending your day with a drink sat around the fire pit.

Facilities

The main building has a thatched roof and one side is completely open to the impressive landscape. Here there’s a bar and living area with comfy chairs and sofas and a dining area.

Relax in between activities and take a dip in the pool, or watch the birds from the veranda of the main building, which attracts an array of bird species.

Activities at Katara Lodge

The lodge offers many activities and ways to explore the park and surrounding landscape. These include game drives, chimpanzee tracking in the Kyambura Gorge, forest walks, birdwatching and a cruise along the Kazinga Channel.
