Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Mahogany Springs Safari Lodge has a lovely setting on the banks of the Munyanga River, nestled in pretty gardens and overlooking the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and its rich variety of wildlife.

Rooms at Mahogany Springs Safari Lodge

The suites are spacious and full of character, with big, comfortable beds, polished wooden floors, traditional woven thatched roofs and local handicrafts adorning the walls. The open-plan bathrooms come with lovely terracotta and mosaic-tiled showers. Each room has large double doors opening onto a beautiful terrace, where you can take in the views over the forest.

Suites can be configured as double, twin or triple to suit your requirements. The Honeymoon Suite comes with a plush bed and a large bathtub, while the Presidential/Family Suite offers plenty of space for all the family, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, as well as a large living area and a big terrace.

Food & Drink

The exemplary cuisine showcases the culinary expertise of the chefs, who have trained all over the world, and the daily-changing menus, including traditional African specialities, make the most of homegrown produce from the lodge's gardens.

Enjoy delicious meals from buffet breakfasts to multi-course dinners in the dining room or out on the terrace overlooking the river and forest, and indulge in an afternoon tea of freshly-baked cakes and biscuits, expertly prepared by in-house pastry chefs. Barbecue nights are held at least once a week, and for something extra-special, experience a private breakfast in the forest or a secluded dinner by the river.

When the evening comes, lingering over a cocktail or glass of wine in the bar is the perfect way to unwind while listening to the sounds of nature around the lodge.

Facilities

The main lodge is home to a cosy living room with a double-sided fireplace, a library of books and DVDs, and plenty of board games to play. You can also unwind with a massage after a day's trekking. Pick up a fantastic gift or souvenir at the boutique, which sells unique handicrafts and beautiful traditional clothing from across Uganda.

Activities at Mahogany Springs Safari Lodge

The headline attraction in this part of the world is the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see mountain gorillas in the wild. Led by expert guides, you’ll track them on foot in the forest and spend around an hour observing them – an unforgettable experience.

As well as gorilla tracking and wildlife spotting, you can also go birdwatching, relax at the lodge's private area by the river, head out on scenic nature trails to waterfalls, meet the local Batwa tribe (whose traditional way of life is under threat), hear from local healers about the medicinal properties of the forest's plants, and contribute to local conservation by planting a tree. You can also visit the Bwindi Ride 4 a Woman charity, which supports women who are in or have come from abusive relationships, who create beautiful gifts for a unique souvenir to take home.
