Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to the some of the world’s last mountain gorillas.

Rooms at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp

There are eight stylish tents, all with four-poster beds, natural furnishings, indigenous artworks and spacious stone-walled bathrooms with beautiful bathtubs looking out over the forest, while you can also take in the surroundings from your veranda.

Food & Drink

The camp has a large and elegant bar and dining room, serving locally-inspired dishes such as smoked beef with peanut sauce, served with kalo (millet bread), that are perfect for refuelling after your gorilla trek. Enjoy the lush forest views and the starry night-time skies with a drink around the campfire outside. For a memorable meal, dine by candlelight on your private deck.

Facilities

The camp is really nestled into the forest here, so the small lawn is surrounded by trees where monkeys swing from branch to branch. There is also a small and tranquil spa which offers treatments designed to help ease tired limbs after a day outdoors.

Activities at Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp

Gorilla trekking is the main draw here: this is usually a challenging hike of several hours through the rainforest - but the trekking memories disappear in a flash the moment you come eye to eye with a mountain gorilla - and you can spend up to an hour with them before returning to the camp. Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp is one of the few places where gorilla trekking isn’t limited to the super-fit and able-bodied: the staff here can (almost) move mountains, and can take less-able guests into the forest in customised sedan chairs.

Outside your tracking hours, there are more gentle walks in the forest on offer, including birdwatching experiences, and the chance to learn a little about the local culture, with visits to the traditional medicine man and local tribes, and you can also discover how beer is made from bananas - banana beer is a popular local drink.
