Experience the Sardine Run

The sardine run of southern Africa is one of the most extraordinary phenomena in nature, when shoals comprising millions of individuals travel up the east coast of South Africa and stir the ocean’s predators into a feeding frenzy. Dolphins, sea birds, game fish and sharks flock to feed on the ‘bait balls’ of migrating fish, and you’ll experience it all from above and below the surface; you’ll also see humpback whales, embarking on their own annual migration while the chaos ensues around them. The best way to experience the sardine run is by diving and being in the water yourself. However, whichever way you experience it, sightings are not always guaranteed.
