Regions in Tanzania

With its extinct volcanic crater, the Ngorongoro Crater, packed with wildlife; Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest peak; remote, wild national parks like Katavi, Ruaha and the famous Serengeti teeming with predators; and beautiful Indian Ocean beaches on Zanzibar and the Coast, a Tanzanian safari holiday is one of our favourites for a luxury safari and beach holiday or honeymoon.

A jigsaw of world-famous national parks, mountains and lakes, the landscapes (and wildlife) of Northern Tanzania are legendary, and combine to form a northern circuit of epic proportions.

Zanzibar is one of Africa’s most evocative names. Here you will find miles of glistening white beaches, and extraordinary coral reefs in its Indian Ocean waters. Meanwhile the capital, Stone Town, is a maze of winding alleyways, crumbling colonial buildings and quirky hidden shops.

In complete contrast to the country’s northern half, Southern Tanzania is well off any kind of tourist radar – and is all the better for it. Worth serious consideration for keen or avid safari-goers, the southern parks are massive, some twice the size of Wales.

Pushed up against Lake Tanganyika and hemmed in by the Rift Valley, Western Tanzania is captivating with its misty mountains covered in forests, turquoise waters filled with pods of hippos and crocodiles and remote lands visited by very few.

The appeal of the offshore islands in the Zanzibar Archipelago means that Tanzania’s mainland beaches are rarely visited. We’ve seen them for ourselves though, and we’d definitely recommend their laid-back charms.
