Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

The secluded Highlands sits in a remote and spectacular location nestled in the green mountain forests on the slopes of the Olmoti volcano, just north of the Ngorongoro Crater, with panoramic views all the way across to the Serengeti. Here, you'll have Africa's famed wildlife on the doorstep - this is one of the best places to see the Big Five as well as many other animals and birds.

Rooms at The Highlands

The eye-catching canvas and glass-domed suites, which are inspired by traditional Maasai bomas, have comfortable beds with cosy throws, wood-burning stoves, wooden floors and bathrooms with showers and flushing toilets. The large windows and wraparound decks make the most of the views – including the starry night skies.

Food & Drink

Enjoy homemade gourmet meals, including fresh, organic ingredients from the Karatu area, just outside Ngorongoro. To make the most of your time, have your breakfast and lunch packed and go explore your beautiful surroundings.

Facilities

There is an indoor fireplace at the heart of the camp where you can experience a traditional African camp fire and unwind with gourmet organic meals and a drink or two from the bar. Have a soak in the hot tub at sunset, looking out over the pink-streaked sky.

Activities at The Highlands

The Ngorongoro Crater is easily accessible: explore with an expert local guide and enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area surrounds the camp, and is teeming with lions, buffaloes and elephants - go on game drives to get up close and personal with the wildlife, and experience the expansive forests and grassy plains.

You can also hike to see the flamingos at Empakaai Crater and follow Maasai trails right to the summit of Olmoti. Immerse yourself in local culture by visiting colourful markets and Maasai homesteads, where you'll be entertained with some traditional dancing.
