Hotel Overview

Located in the malaria-free Shamwari Game Reserve, in South Africa’s Eastern Cape- less than one hour’s drive from the airport at Port Elizabeth.

Rooms at Shamwari

There are eight different game lodges in Shamwari Game Reserve, all of which are 5-star graded. For utter exclusivity and privacy, we recommend Eagles Crag as, with only 9 suites, it is perfect for the most discerning of travellers. Tucked away deep in the valleys between the imposing mountain cliffs, the suites at Eagles Crag have been fashioned out of glass and stone offering expansive views over the wildlife-rich bush. The rooms have thatched roofs, en-suite bathrooms and four-poster king-sized beds that lead out to private decks with a plunge pool.

Food and Facilities

Indulge in fine cuisine either at the main lodge or around a traditional boma, tasting many South African dishes under the clear skies at night. In-between meals and game drives, you can relax in the lounge with a blazing fire or read up on the reserve’s history in the cosy library.

Activities at Shamwari

Enjoy morning and evening game drives with your experienced tracker and guide, where you will be able to spot the huge quantity of wildlife, including lions, elephants, white rhino and cheetah. Get up close to these wild animals in one of the two Born Free Sanctuaries and Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, which offers a rare opportunity to see the current patients, before spending some quality time by the pool or in the African-inspired retreat spa.
