Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

These lodges are located in the beautiful (and malaria-free) Shamwari Game Reserve, in South Africa’s Eastern Cape.

Rooms at Shamwari

There are seven different lodges in Shamwari Game Reserve, all of which are 5-star graded, as well as a luxury tented camp, all offering distinct experiences.

For utter exclusivity and privacy, we recommend Eagles Crag as, with only a handful of suites, it is perfect for the most discerning of travellers. Tucked away deep in the valleys between the imposing mountain cliffs, the suites have been fashioned out of glass and stone, offering expansive views over the wildlife-rich bush. The rooms have thatched roofs and four-poster king-sized beds, and lead out to private decks with a plunge pool.

Food & Drink

Indulge in fine cuisine prepared by expert chefs either at the main lodge or around a traditional boma, tasting many South African dishes under the clear skies at night. There's also a cocktail and cigar bar - perfect for a drink or two after an exhilarating day.

Facilities

In between meals and game drives, you can relax in the lounge with a blazing fire or read up on the reserve’s history in the cosy library. Cool off in the pool or spend some quality time poolside, and unwind in the African-inspired spa.

Activities at Shamwari

Enjoy memorable morning and evening game drives with your experienced tracker and guide, where you will be able to spot the huge quantity of wildlife, including lions, elephants, white rhinos and cheetahs. Get up close to these wild animals in one of the Born Free sanctuaries and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre, which offer a rare opportunity to see the current patients.
