Lake Kivu Serena Hotel

Location: Lake Kivu | Rwanda

Price guide: £££££ Less than £100 per person per night

Lake Kivu Serena Hotel in Rwanda is rather larger than many lodges that we recommend in Africa, but has a real appeal to it. After a day or so of roughing it during your gorilla trek, it’s rather pleasant to step back into the world of 21st century mod cons, and with a lovely location right down on the lake beach, it's ideal for a post gorilla-trek snooze.
Perfect forSome blissful pre or post trek R&R.
In the knowIf you do just one thing while you’re here, be sure to visit the Imbabazi Orphanage – utterly delightful and very moving.

Hotel Overview

Gisenyi Town, on the banks of Lake Kivu.

Rooms at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel

There are 66 rooms and 6 suites at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, with room service, satellite TV and hairdryers. On top of this, there’s a/c, and wi-fi (perfect for sending trekking photos home and making your friends and family jealous!). Not, you might think, what you travel half way around the world for, but in our experience, you’ll appreciate the many wonders of the bush all the more after a day or two of recharging your batteries here (both literally and figuratively!)

Food and Facilities

Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is of an international standard, and so comes with all the facilities that you’d expect. There’s a restaurant as well as a bar down near the lakeshore. Food and service are good, and there’s a decent swimming pool too.

Activities at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel

If we’re honest, this isn’t a place to go for a hectic round of activities. Where Lake Kivu Serena Hotel excels is as a place to relax and break your journey around Rwanda. However, there is boating on the lake, fishing, volleyball and some gentle hiking around the area. In all though, we’d advise you not to try to do too much here.
