There are 66 rooms and 6 suites at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, with room service, satellite TV and hairdryers. On top of this, there’s a/c, and wi-fi (perfect for sending trekking photos home and making your friends and family jealous!). Not, you might think, what you travel half way around the world for, but in our experience, you’ll appreciate the many wonders of the bush all the more after a day or two of recharging your batteries here (both literally and figuratively!)

Lake Kivu Serena Hotel is of an international standard, and so comes with all the facilities that you’d expect. There’s a restaurant as well as a bar down near the lakeshore. Food and service are good, and there’s a decent swimming pool too.

If we’re honest, this isn’t a place to go for a hectic round of activities. Where Lake Kivu Serena Hotel excels is as a place to relax and break your journey around Rwanda. However, there is boating on the lake, fishing, volleyball and some gentle hiking around the area. In all though, we’d advise you not to try to do too much here.
