Hotel Overview

Sense of Place

Nestled in the broad desert valley along the dry Auab riverbed of the private 37,000-hectare Kulala Wilderness Reserve, Little Kulala Lodge enjoys the solitude and panoramic views of the Namib desert.

Rooms at Little Kulala

The 11 thatched "kulalas" are stylish and private suites which blend seamlessly with the desert outside.  Earthy and sandy tones are used throughout the rooms, natural materials used wherever possible, and floor-ceiling windows on two sides complete the effect. Each unit comes with its own private plunge pool and a rooftop 'Star Bed' for a romantic night of stargazing.

Food & Drink

In warmer months meals are eaten under the stars, when it's cool, around a crackling fire and during winter months dining is taken indoors underneath the thatched communal areas. There's also a wine cellar (stocked with fine wines and champagnes) where private meals can be taken.

Facilities

As well as private plunge pools with your suite there is also a larger pool by the communal areas, allowing you to have a refreshing dip while enjoying a refreshing cocktail and admiring the panoramic views. If you can tear your eyes away from the wonders of nature, there's a library and small gift shop.

Activities at Little Kulala

The highlight of any visit to Sossusvlei are the dunes, so a dawn awakening to watch the desert turn from red to gold is a must. For the energetic, there's the chance to climb one of the most challenging dunes- start early to beat the blazing mid day sun. There are game drives and walks on Kulala's private reserve, and a worthwhile extra is the early-morning hot air balloon flight over the desert.
