Eagle's Nest

Klein-Aus Vista is situated at the meeting point of the Namib Desert and the grassy plains of the Pro-Namib frontier, and the landscapes, roamed by wild horses, are like a slice of the Wild West in the heart of Namibia. The Eagle’s Nest chalets are situated away from the rest of the lodge and feel extra-secluded.

The Eagle’s Nest chalets are situated 7 kilometres away from the main lodge, and offer the ultimate seclusion and privacy with stunning views over the Aus Mountains and the Pro-Namib frontier. The chalets are hewn from rounded granite boulders and local wood, and reflect the rugged beauty of the landscape while providing luxurious comfort. The aesthetic continues inside, with exposed stonework on the walls, stone floors, and large, floor-to-ceiling windows so you can take in the view from the comfort of your bed.

The chalets feature fully equipped kitchens, so you can self-cater if you wish; alternatively, you can head to the Desert Horse Inn restaurant, named for the feral horses who roam the Namib. Breakfast is a sumptuous buffet of hot and cold options, while for lunch you can choose from a range of light bites, sandwiches and salads. Dinner is an extensive multi-course affair with an emphasis on hearty local specialities such as potjekos (trekker’s stew). Takeaway breakfasts and barbecue packs are also available on request.

The Eagle’s Nest chalets feature outdoor braii-style barbeque facilities, as well as fully equipped kitchens for self-catering. The Desert Horse Inn has a swimming pool which all guests are welcome to use, and which offers a welcome respite from the searing desert sun.

Not to be missed during your stay here is a visit to the eerie mining town of Kolmanskop, which flourished in the early 20^th century before being abandoned when its bounty of diamonds began to be exhausted after World War I. In the century since, nature has begun to reclaim the once-prosperous town, whose houses are now half-filled with sand, lending it a creepy ghost-town atmosphere. Also worth a visit is the harbour town of Luderitz, which has some fine Portuguese colonial architecture. Other highlights include a visit to a nearby hide to watch the wild horses who roam the plains of the Namib, and the many hiking and mountain biking trails through the Gondwana Sperrgebiet Rand Park.
