Wonderful Malawi is full of simple pleasures year round, but for first-timers and those who want to make the most of the lake, the hottest driest periods are the best time to go.
These occur in May, September, and October – ideal for snorkelling and swimming in the crystal waters, and for seeing great herds of elephants gathering in Liwonde as their waterholes dry out. June to August meanwhile is still dry but a little cooler, making it ideal for walking and riding on Nyika Plateau and Zomba Plateau.
And the wetter months? November to March is generally the off-season in Malawi but those in the know will take a peek at the blooming orchids of the Nyika Plateau.
